What is Global Citizenship?
According
to Wikipedia,
"Global citizenship" is the idea that one's
identity transcends geography or political borders and that responsibilities or
rights are derived from membership in a broader class: "humanity".
This does not mean that such a person denounces or waives their nationality or
other, more local identities, but that such identities are given "second
place" to their membership in a global community.
When we speak of Global Citizenship in Immigration, to put it in my own words, it is the unrestricted access to citizen rights in different global locations. These could be the right to live in the country, the right to conduct business, the right to public healthcare etc. Being able to have these rights in different countries puts you on the map of Global Citizenship.
