As a creative initiative by ASCC, Emotion Shala is
solely dedicated to the well-being of young children through social-emotional
learning. Social-emotional learning instills skills that can help children
communicate, play, and explore, which makes growing up easier. They utilise
research-based data from CASEL to generate and create strategies and tools
focused on holistic development. They make use of all modes of learning, such
as audio-visual, drawing, coloring, storytelling, music, dance, and games, along
with puppetry, rhymes, and jingles that include interaction. Their courses
involve live interactive sessions with parents and teachers as a part of the
ecosystem of the child.
EmotionShala is a 6-8 month-long curriculum with more
than 15 lessons that are in sync with each other and of progressive nature. The
curriculum, therefore, is based on a holistic approach rather than a fragmented
approach. The curriculum begins with Self-Awareness, the first
competency, which includes understanding oneself and our emotions leading to Self-Regulation
which guides and trains us to manage and modify our emotions and thoughts.
Once a child is able to identify her/his emotion, say anger, and is able to
manage that anger behavior, EmotionShala moves on to Social Awareness. Social
awareness includes being empathetic and understanding other perspectives. This
sort of awareness leads to the enhancement of social skills and cooperation, and
the fourth competency- Relationship Skills. Once the child has learned
from the earlier 4 competencies, he/she will be able to make good and
appropriate decisions, leading to the 5th competency- Responsible Decision
Making. This is how we try to teach social-emotional learning not in bits
and pieces but in a congruent and harmonious manner.
Mission
They aim to
nurture children with an enabling ecosystem for their holistic growth and
development.
Vision
Emotion Shala envisions working with governmental and non-governmental organisations and private sectors to encompass all the socio-economic sectors and contribute to the community by making better citizens for the future. They also strive to enhance psychological well-being and build better human capital. This social and emotional learning curriculum delivers research-based, progressive products for holistic development. Their energetic team consists of world-class facilitators and emotional intelligence coaches. They intend to make their facilities accessible to linguistically diverse learners.
