Dr. Md. Shahnawaz Abdin, Associate Professor, Department of Management, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi

Dr. Md. Shahnawaz Abdin is an Associate Professor with the Department of Management, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, India.  He has more than 20 years of academic, teaching, research and training experience. Dr. Abdin has acquired MBA and Ph.D from Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. He is an Accredited Management Teacher (AMT) from AIMA.  His specialization is in marketing and consumer behavior. Dr. Abdin has attended/presented papers in numerous conferences, seminars, symposium, workshops, FDPs and MDPs. He has published extensively in journals, magazines and newspapers of repute. Dr. Abdin has been a reviewer for many journals of repute. He is currently the Research and Ph.D. Coordinator at Department of Management, SMBS, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi.

Dr. Abdin has extensive experience and expertise in management education, research and training and is well known among academic fraternity. He has delivered several invited/expert lectures in various training programs conducted by institutions of national and international repute. Some of the prominent government organizations such as NCGG Mussoorie, erstwhile NIIAR, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) Mussoorie; PRIDE New Delhi, erstwhile BPST, Lok Sabha Secretariat, New Delhi; regularly invite Dr. Abdin to deliver expert lectures in various management and administrative training programs for officials of various organizations and at various levels. Besides, Dr. Abdin is a passionate researcher and has published numerous articles and research papers in various journals of national and international repute that also include globally acclaimed publishers such as Emerald, Routledge (Taylor and Francis Group). He is a recipient of Emerald Literati Awards 2022 for the Outstanding Paper. He has also showcased his research papers in various national/international conferences organized by prominent institutions such as Central Universities; Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) of the country and has won best research paper awards in some of these conferences. He serves on the editorial board of several high quality journals. Dr. Abdin is also a member of various committees of Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi that show his administrative and leadership skills.

Dr. Abdin has membership of various reputed bodies/organizations. He is also serving in various committees of conferences being organized by different institutions in India. His name was selected and covered in the illustrious list of Leading Professors from India 2023 in the annual list included by the magazine www.businesstalkz.com. He has chaired sessions in international conferences.  Dr. Abdin has won multiple awards and recognitions.

Dr. Abdin was conferred the prestigious IRSD Academic Excellence Award 2023 during the 10th International Conference on Interdisciplinary Research for Sustainable Development 2023. He has also been selected for the award of “Distinguished Faculty in Marketing” Award 2023 in Management Discipline by Venus International Foundation, Chennai, India.

According to Dr. Abdin, meticulous planning and execution along with patience are essential to be successful. Analytical and diagnostic skills are critical for people to excel.

When asked about his research journey, Dr. Abdin was very clear and lucid. He expressed his idea of giving importance to contemporary research in the light of problem solving for humans and environment. Research, according to him, must be meaningful, impactful and implementable. Rest all is a waste of resources including time.

His other interests and hobbies include watching news, films, listening to music, sports and adventure, and counselling people.

Dr. Abdin as an academician

Dr. Abdin wanted some real change in modern day learners. He calls them learners as students are restricted to campus but learners learn about the school of life. Application of common sense, practical approach, honing skills and learning for greater good should be some of the qualities of modern day students/learners. An accomplished society should get good students, the one they deserve and not only the one they need.

His last advice is for researchers pursuing Ph.D. According to Dr. Abdin, research can be interesting and easy if the goals are rightly mapped. Objectives have to be aligned with the purpose of research. At each crossroad, there should be an attempt to look back and judge the progress before leaping forth. Today, we deserve a better class of research, research which will make a positive impact. The ends will have to justify means.
