Sameer Joshi PhD

SameerJoshi holds a degree in Polymer engineering along with a PhD in waste management. He has been working in plastic waste management and supporting young entrepreneurs who are dedicated to reducing plastic pollution.

He is a fellow of the Indian Plastics Institute and the Indian Institute of Valuers, a member of the Institution of Engineers India, and a senior member of the Society of Plastic Engineers USA. He holds expertise in the circular economy, Recycling, EPR, and plastics and has his own Plastic injection moulding unit in Pune. He is a member of the World Economic Forum's Regional Committee on Plastic Waste in South Asia, as well as the UN Marine Litter Action Group and the Niti Ayog Committee.

Today, plastic waste management has become quite important. It must be noted that plastics do not litter, but people do. Embracing the principles of a circular economy where waste is a resource and has to be used as a feed for making something useful and getting in loop is the need of the hour.

According to Sameer Joshi, nothing is wasted until it is wasted. Not to ban but to plan and work for solutions, rather than pollution, is the attitude we need to embrace.

The topic of his PhD is Critical Analysis of the Role of Stakeholders in Plastic Waste Management. The various stakeholders are the government, NGOs, Brands, manufacturers, Consumers, Waste pickers, Technology providers, and financial institutes. Unless all the stakeholders come together, the issue of plastic waste management will not be resolved.

Along with multiple feats, he also holds the Guinness World Book Record for the world 's largest T-shirt made from plastic waste in 2018.
