Seema B. Joshi, cybersecurity expert
My beloved parents encouraged me to
enhance my career in the cybersecurity domain. Having a strong support system
is essential when pursuing a career change or any significant endeavor. In this
case, my parents played a pivotal role in motivating and guiding me towards a
career in cybersecurity. Their encouragement likely provided me with the
confidence and determination needed to explore this field. Sometimes, life
presents unexpected situations that can become turning points in our careers.
The incident in which my institute's website was hacked while I was on leave
that incident forced me to take immediate action to mitigate the cyberattack.
This experience likely highlighted the real-world significance of cybersecurity
and the need for experts in this field. Then I decided to get into
cybersecurity.
In the current digital age, the
frequency of cyberattacks is increasing day by day. The role of cyber security
academics and researchers is very important to building our nation’s youth in
the cybersecurity and incident response domains. I am grateful to be an
academician with a specialization in cybersecurity and to serve our nation.
In summary, my journey into
cybersecurity was influenced by my parents’ encouragement, catalyzed by a
real-life incident, and driven by the increasing prevalence of cyberattacks in
the digital era. My decision to become a cybersecurity academician and researcher
is a commendable choice, given the critical need for experts in this field to
protect our digital infrastructure and train future generations in
cybersecurity and incident response. I am also very thankful to my alma mater

applied for a position in the Government Engineering College recruitment in
2008. Successfully securing a role in the Government of Gujarat Technical
Education marked the start of my academic career.
I continued to progress in my
academic career, eventually earning an M. Tech. in Cyber Security and Incident
Response in 2016 from Gujarat Forensic Sciences University and a Ph.D. in
Computer/IT Engineering in 2022 from Gujarat Technological University. This
educational achievement allowed me to specialize in a field that is of critical
importance in today's digital landscape.
My transition wasn't just from one
career to another; it also involved transitioning to a higher level of teaching
and learning experience. Teaching cyber security subjects became a significant
part of my academic role.
I consistently express gratitude and
pride in my role as an academician. Teaching in the challenging field of cyber
security gives me a sense of fulfillment and pride, knowing that I am
contributing to my students' growth and development. Cybersecurity is not only
important for individuals and organizations but also for national security. My
work as an academician in this field directly contributes to the nation's
security by preparing students for careers in this critical area.
Overall, my transition journey is
characterized by a strong commitment to education, continuous learning, and a
clear sense of purpose. My progression from the IT industry to academia, with a
