I'm Dr. Santosh Walke, and I'm currently a Program
Manager and teaching faculty in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial
Engineering at the National University of Science & Technology in Muscat,
Oman. I've been working in academia for over two decades, specializing in
chemical engineering and business administration.
My academic journey started with a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering, followed by Master's degrees in both Chemical Engineering and Business Administration. I then pursued my Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, further solidifying my expertise in the field. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work in diverse roles, including research and development, teaching, and academic administration. I've held positions at various universities and colleges in India and Oman, gaining valuable experience in both academic and professional settings. My research interests lie primarily in hydrodynamics in multiphase flow, process modeling and simulation, extraction of minerals, waste-to-energy conversion, artificial intelligence in process engineering, supply chain management and logistics, green hydrogen production, and marketing management. I'm passionate about conducting research that addresses real-world challenges and contributes to a more sustainable future. Currently, I'm leading several research projects that align with Oman's national goals and global sustainability initiatives. These projects explore green hydrogen production, strategic Omanization in the logistics sector, and biochar stabilization. I'm also actively involved in academic administration, serving as the Program Manager for the Master's in Chemical Process Engineering, the Master's Research Project Coordinator for International Organizations and Supply Chain Management, and the Capstone Project Coordinator for the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
Additionally, I'm a member of various professional organizations, including the Institution of Engineers (India), the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. I believe that active participation in professional communities is crucial for staying updated with the latest advancements in the field and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
Could you give a brief overview of your educational and professional journey?
My educational journey has been a progression of knowledge and expertise in the field of chemical engineering. It began with a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from Dr. B. A. Tech. University in Lonere, India, in August 1996. This laid the foundation for my academic pursuits.
I continued my studies with a Master's of Engineering (ME) in Chemical Engineering from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, India, graduating in May 2005. Following this, I pursued a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing Management from Pune University (SPPU), India, completing my studies in October 1999. This diverse educational background equipped me with a strong foundation in both technical and managerial aspects.
The pinnacle of my academic journey came with the completion of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Engineering from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University in Lonere, India, in May 2014. This marked the culmination of my formal education, solidifying my expertise in the field.
Professionally, I embarked on a career in academia, starting as a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at KES NNP Engineering College, Pen, India, in December 1997. Over the years, I progressed through various academic roles, including Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor, contributing significantly to institutions like MGM’s College of Engineering & Technology and Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering & Technology in Navi Mumbai, India.
In 2015, I took on a role as a teaching faculty in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at Caledonian College of Engineering in Muscat, Oman. Subsequently, I assumed the teaching position at the National University of Science & Technology in Muscat, Oman, where I continue to teach and contribute to various academic and administrative responsibilities.
My current role involves serving as the Program Manager of MSc Chemical Process Engineering and coordinating research projects related to green hydrogen production, logistics, and environmental sustainability. I've also been actively involved in administrative committees, program coordination, and research initiatives.
Throughout my professional journey, I've been dedicated to advancing knowledge in chemical engineering, with a focus on areas such as hydrodynamics, process modeling, waste-to-energy solutions, and artificial intelligence. My commitment to excellence has been recognized through awards such as the Academic Excellence Award and Best Research Paper Awards at conferences.
