Dr. Sree Lakshmi Ammanamanchi, Lecturer,
ELC, University of Technology & Applied Sciences, Al Musanna, Oman
I am a passionate English teacher and a researcher
with almost three decades of experience in education and linguistics. I aim to
drive forward creative teaching methods, shape progressive curriculum designs,
and make a lasting impact on the ELT field worldwide, all while maintaining my
commitment to personal and professional growth. I love to explore the
intersections between teaching and research. As a Toastmaster, I enjoy public
speaking with leadership skills.
Professional journey
I had an exciting journey from the Land of Mangoes to
the Land of Dates. Throughout my professional journey, I've witnessed the
evolving landscape of language education. I've adapted my teaching methods to
cater to the changing needs of students, integrating technology and innovative
approaches. I started my career as an English trainer at a spoken English
Centre in 1995, followed by being a lecturer at a few degree colleges in
Hyderabad, India. Later, in 2003, I moved to work in prestigious Engineering
Colleges like Netaji Institute of Engineering and Technology-NIET as the Head
of the Department, Aurora's Technological and Research Institute-ATRI, where I
could see myself engaged in conducting workshops and attending and presenting at
conferences and Vignana Bharathi Institute of Technology-VBIT before coming to the
Sultanate of Oman. Each workplace has given me satisfying experiences, yet VBIT
has seen/given the best of my abilities. This time, my career was at its peak;
along with teaching English, I had responsibilities as a Training and Placement
Officer. It was a great feeling when students looked up to me for their
placements, sometimes successfully and sometimes not. It has been a decade
since I have been in Oman with the University of Technology and Applied
Sciences-Al Musanna in various roles, presently as a Coordinator of Technical
Communication course and teaching Technical Writing.
Areas of interests
As I have a Ph.D. from Osmania University in
Educational Linguistics, my subjects include English language literature and
linguistics. I've covered a broad spectrum, from grammar and vocabulary to
literary analysis, fostering a comprehensive understanding of language.
Dr Sree as an English language trainer
As an English language trainer, I offered dynamic and
interactive lessons, focusing on all aspects of language acquisition. From
pronunciation drills to nuanced grammar explanations, my goal was to empower
students to express themselves fluently. My experience at the English Language
Training Centre-Osmania University, ELTC-OU for almost ten years helped me pave
the way for language learners. I was responsible for conducting a teachers'
training program called Certificate Course in English for Teachers, Basic
Course in English Grammar, and Certificate Course in Writing. I also offered coaching
for the IELTS, GRE, and TOEFL programs.
Role as a soft skills trainer
As a Soft skills trainer, I emphasized the importance
of effective communication, interpersonal skills, and professional etiquette. I
aimed to equip individuals with language proficiency and the soft skills
necessary for success in diverse environments. As I mentioned earlier, the
seeds were sown at ELTC_OU. At Bankatlal Badruka College for Information and
Technology, BBCIT-Hyderabad, I designed an exclusive soft skills program for
PGDM, PGDITM, BBA, and MBA students, which received excellent feedback that strengthened
my confidence. Yet another contentment was when I offered a training program to
the staff and middle management of Jeedimetla Effluent Treatment Limited,
Hyderabad. With these experiences, I worked as an Augmentation Trainer for the management
students at Acharya Institute of Management and Sciences-AIMS, Bangalore. It
was another feather in my cap for successful programs.
Certifications
Over the years, I've earned certifications like a PG
Certificate in Teaching English-PGCTE, a PG Diploma in Teaching English-PGDTE
from EFLU-Hyderabad, a PG Diploma in Applied Linguistics, a PGDAL and a PG
Diploma in English Language Teaching-PGDELT from Osmania University, Hyderabad,
and other relevant qualifications from the British Council. These
certifications have enriched my teaching methodologies and kept me updated with
the latest advancements in language education.
Career achievements
- Fostering a positive and engaging learning environment.
- Contributing to the language development of numerous students.
- Receiving recognition for innovative teaching practices.
I take pride in the success stories of my students,
who have excelled in various fields using the strong linguistic foundation they
acquired under my guidance. It thrills me to share with you that I conducted
about 25 workshops for the teaching fraternity on various topics in AP,
Telangana, and Karnataka at very prestigious colleges and universities and
interacted with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam when he visited Hyderabad for an HR
conclave.
As it is said, teaching is the one profession that
creates all other professions. It gives me immense contentment when I encounter
my students who have gained confidence through solid language and effective
communication. I am so proud that many who struggled to communicate in English
are in management positions dealing with international clients today.
