Educational Background
My academic journey is anchored by a Ph.D. in Child Psychology, conferred by Mahatma Gandhi University, School of Behavioral Sciences. The focus of my research study, titled "Determinants of Cognitive Development of Preschool Children in Kerala," led to the awarding of the doctoral degree in 2010, accompanied by enrollment in a Senior Research Fellowship (SRF).
Furthermore, I hold an MPhil in Special Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, with First Class honors, from Mahatma Gandhi University, India. My academic achievements also include a Master's degree in Health and Behavioral Science / Disability Studies, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Nutrition, both earned with first-class honors.
Throughout my academic pursuits, I have dedicated my research endeavors to understanding and addressing the needs of deprived, differently-abled, and diverse preschool children. This commitment underscores my passion for contributing to the welfare and development of this segment of our society.
What sparked your interest and led you to pursue education in special education?
The impetus for my involvement in special education and disability studies stems from the poignant environmental repercussions of endosulfan pollution in Kerala, India. This unfortunate situation significantly impacted the local population, notably resulting in intellectual disabilities among children. Witnessing the profound and devastating consequences for these young lives and their families has ignited within me a profound sense of empathy and compassion.
Motivated by a desire to address this critical gap and contribute meaningfully to the lives of affected children, I chose to specialize in special education and child development. This decision represents a proactive step towards fostering positive change, recognizing the imperative of supporting and enhancing the well-being of children with diverse needs.
