I secured first rank in the all-India Ph.D. in Management entrance examination conducted by the University of Hyderabad and earned my Ph.D. degree under the able guidance of Prof. GVRK Acharyulu and Prof. B. Raja Shekhar in the year 2015. Teaching Methods of Dr. Ramaiah

As a passionate teacher by choice, I believe in an experiential, student-centred education. This teaching philosophy has developed from my personal and professional experiences both in and out of the classroom. I believe that apart from regular classroom lectures, the students should be engaged in the process of learning. Active engagement of the students in the learning process will allow them to develop deeper understandings of the concepts of the various courses in which they are studying. Group Assignments & Case Study methods are useful in helping the students learn better. I strongly believe that classroom teaching should not be a one-way communication but rather a two-way communication. I encourage the students to ask questions and respond to the teaching context. I also believe the brain-storming sessions will be more useful in the classroom. As a teacher, I value the students' feedback', improve the area wherever it requires, and try to give my best.

Dr. Ramaiah about balancing lives

Balancing professional and personal lives is a common challenge faced by many professionals, including teachers. I am not exceptional, but I believe that striking a healthy equilibrium between the two is essential for overall well-being and success in both spheres. It requires self-awareness, discipline, and a commitment to prioritise my well-being. By implementing these strategies, I am trying to strike a healthier balance between my professional and personal lives, leading to greater satisfaction. I must thank my wife Dr. Pradhnya Prabhu for understanding and support throughout my journey. I strongly believe “a satisfied life is better than a successful life." As a Dean, I am satisfied by working in healthcare management area, which contributes to a ‘Nobel Cause’.

Key advice to an aspiring hospital and healthcare management student or professional

Being a Millennial (Gen-Y) healthcare teacher and researcher, I am pleased to see a rise in the number of Gen-Y and Gen-Z healthcare professionals, more institutions/universities offering MBA/PGDBM/MHM programs, and more employment opportunities in India. Today, the healthcare/hospital management degree has become a minimum job guarantee program. This has been proven before and after the outbreak of COVID-19. A great deal of effort was made by healthcare/hospital management professionals to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, along with other professionals. But I do not feel their services are well recognised.

I suggest aspiring students or someone looking to be a part of the healthcare industry select a reputed university or institution, obtain a good grade (for students), gain experience in the healthcare sector, and plan their career growth.

Last but not least, “Dream big and work hard.”

Thank you.
