Dr. S.V.A.R. Sastry – Associate Professor, School of Chemical Technology and Associate Dean, Harcourt Butler Technical University
Dr. S.V.A.R. Sastry is an Associate Professor at the School of Chemical Technology and serves as the Associate Dean of Research and Development at Harcourt Butler Technical University. He completed his B.Tech at NIT Jalandhar, M.Tech at IIT Delhi, and Ph.D. at JNTU Kakinada, where he was awarded the "Best Ph.D. Thesis Award." With a career spanning over two decades, he has dedicated himself to teaching and research, specializing in engineering education for both undergraduate and graduate students. He holds 12 patents in renewable energy and nanofluids, authored 22 international books, and has published over 60 research papers, presenting at more than 50 international conferences. His focus includes creating an optimal learning environment, promoting educational technology, supporting student well-being, fostering inclusivity, and driving innovations for community betterment.
Education
He completed his B.Tech. from NIT Jalandhar, M.Tech. from IIT Delhi, and Ph.D. from JNTU Kakinada. His M.Tech in Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, specialized in "Process Engineering & Design," where he achieved the 2nd rank in his batch. Emphasizing the importance of qualities such as persistence, hard work, dedication, focus, resilience in handling failures, and continuous learning for achieving success in life, his academic tenure at IIT Delhi significantly contributed to developing these attributes. It also played a crucial role in enhancing his interpersonal, social, and communication skills.
Career Path
He has taught over 20 subjects and 8 lab courses, providing guidance to more than 200 undergraduate students, 12 graduate students, and 10 postgraduate students in projects focusing on fluidization, heat transfer, mass transfer, biofuels, and nanotechnology.
He holds esteemed positions as a Fellow and Senior Member of the Institution of Engineers, the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, the International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology, the Institute for Engineering Research and Publication, and the Indian Desalination Association.
Currently serving as an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering, he also fulfills roles as Associate Dean (Research & Development), Deputy Controller of Examinations, and University Counselor at Harcourt Butler Technical University in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Research Inspirations: From Nanotech to E-Waste
He focuses his research on endeavors that benefit society. His journey began with biofuels, particularly biodiesel production, before delving into nanotechnology to enhance biofuel processes. Addressing the environmental challenge posed by conventional lubricants, he expanded his research into biolubricants. Currently, he supervises several Ph.D. scholars engaged in research on biolubricants and nanotechnological applications.
Additionally, his consultancy work led to research outcomes in cyclone separation and e-waste management, initiated by industrial challenges from companies in China and the US.

Recognized
for teaching and research excellence, Dr. S.V.A.R. Sastry has received numerous
awards, contributing significantly to academic and community development. He
was awarded the “University Best Teacher Award” by Jawaharlal Nehru
Technological University, Kakinada, A.P., for the years 2008–2013. In 2021, he
was honored with the “Best Researcher Award.” Additionally, he received
the “Research Excellence Award” from Harcourt Butler Technical
University, Kanpur, in 2023.
He serves as
the editor for 6 international journals and is an Editorial Board member for 5
international journals. Additionally, he has been recognized with “Outstanding
Reviewer” status by Elsevier, U.S., and has been granted full free access
to Scopus by Elsevier, U.S.
He has provided consultation on the design and implementation of the ‘High Speed Industrial Vaporizer’, ‘Mixing Device for Chemical Absorption Process’, and ‘Exploring Disruptions, Formulations, and Technologies in the Lubricant Industry’ to Convetit, U.S. Additionally, he offered consultation on “Cyclone Separator Technology” to BCC Global, China. Moreover, he has organized more than 20 faculty development programs, workshops, and international conferences, including CHEMCON 2022, held from 27th – 30th December, 2022.
He has
also worked on or is working on sponsored projects worth Rs. 56 lakhs from
various Government agencies. His efforts in mentoring and fostering an
inclusive educational environment have been recognized by various
organizations, including the Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Aayog.

He
acknowledges the need to work on maintaining a proper balance between his

Professional Integrity
One should
be honest in their profession. Feel the happiness of working sincerely. Don’t
become mad after getting recognition. They will come on their own. Honest and
sincere work will always be recognized. Don’t go for cheap tricks to publish
papers. In the beginning, it may seem lucrative, but later on, one gets into
trouble with those very papers.
