Kyna Khare, a remarkable 12-year-old
girl from Bengaluru, has made history by becoming the world’s youngest female
master scuba diver. Her journey into the underwater world began at the age of
10, and in just two years, she has garnered accolades and recognition in the
scuba diving community. Her first dive was in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands,
a tandem dive that sparked her love for scuba diving. This initial experience
was both thrilling and transformative, leading her to pursue further training
and certification. Kyna completed her open water course in Bali, Indonesia, and
later advanced her skills in Thailand, culminating in her becoming a master diver
back in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Kyna’s achievements in scuba diving are
extensive and impressive for her age. She holds an advanced open water
certification and has specialized in underwater photography, Nitrox diving, and
perfect buoyancy control. Additionally, she has completed rescue diver training
and various specialty courses, all of which contribute to her recognition as a
master diver. This prestigious title is awarded to divers who exhibit
exceptional knowledge, dedication, and proficiency in the sport.
Diving is not thrilling without its
challenges, and Kyna has faced her fair share. She mentions the
unpredictability of the underwater environment, such as adverse weather
conditions that can obscure visibility and the potential dangers to marine
life. One of her most daunting experiences was during a rescue diving course in
the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where she had to navigate choppy waters and a
heavy storm to rescue an unconscious diver. Her parents have been her steadfast
supporters throughout her journey. Both scuba diving enthusiasts themselves
initially had hesitations about their young daughter undertaking such a
demanding activity. However, their belief in Kyna’s passion and dedication led
them to support her wholeheartedly. They ensured all safety protocols were
followed meticulously and managed her diet and sleep schedules to keep her fit
and healthy for diving. Her mother, Anshuma, describes Kyna as a "water
baby," highlighting her early love for swimming. Kyna learned to swim at
just two years old and has always been drawn to water activities. Her parents’
support and encouragement have been pivotal to her achievements, emphasizing
the importance of nurturing a child’s passion.
Her fascination with the underwater
world extends beyond scuba diving. She is passionate about aquatic life and
ecosystems, which is why she wants to study marine science. Her favorite marine
creatures are sea turtles, which she finds amazing and majestic. Her diving and
her adventures have taken her to various exotic locations. In India, she has
dived extensively in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Internationally, she has
explored the waters of Bali, the Maldives, and Thailand. Each location offers
unique underwater experiences, enriching her knowledge and skills as a diver.
Kyna Khare’s story serves as an
inspiration to young divers and anyone pursuing their dreams. Her mother,
Anshuma, encourages other parents to support their children’s passions,
emphasizing that with the right guidance and encouragement, nothing is impossible
in today’s world. As Kyna delves deeper into the underwater realm and follows
her aspiration to study marine science, she stands as a shining example and
source of motivation for budding divers and young talents globally.
