Prasanalakshmi B., Professor and Researcher, College of Computer Science at King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia

I, Prasanalakshmi B., am a professor at the College of Computer Science at King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia. I did my postdoctoral fellowship in the Data Science Laboratory at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Prior to that, I was a Research Associate at the College of Computer and Information Technology, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2009.

Educational & Professional Journey

I have three master’s degrees, one in computer applications and the other in software engineering, both from Bharathidasan University, India, and one more master's in Computer Engineering from Anna University, India, respectively, and a doctorate in image processing from the Research and Development Center, Bharathiar University, India. I was invited as a visiting professor from the School of Technologies, Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK and Distinguished Adjunct faculty in the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai, India. I have a handful of 18 years experience in research and teaching.

Inspirations: AI, Research, & Academia

I would like to address myself as a highly accomplished researcher and educator. My research in the field of cancer imaging research in artificial intelligence is making a significant impact on the world. Researchers who went on in the field of medical imaging and analysis inspired me a lot to involve myself in the field of AI research.

Publications and Recognitions

I am a HEA-UK Fellow and a Senior Member of IEEE. I have published 60+ research articles in various International Referred Journals (SCIE/SCOPUS) with decent impact factors and published international conferences in Springer, IEEE Xplore, ACM, and book chapters. I have published 4 authored books in computer science and 10 international and Indian patents with grants. I achieved globally recognized professional certifications from various IT giants, won the first prize cash award for research and innovation from King Khalid University in 2022, and have received several awards for my research, including the Young Scientist Award from the SCR Academy in 2016.

Emerging Trends in AI Research

Artificial intelligence for healthcare is increasingly being applied to healthcare for tasks such as medical image analysis, drug discovery, personalized treatment plans, and predicting patient outcomes. This has the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes. AI-powered image analysis is transforming medical diagnostics, and deep learning models are being trained to detect abnormalities in medical images with high accuracy, aiding clinicians in early disease detection. The responsible deployment of AI in healthcare settings is essential for building trust among patients, clinicians, and regulatory bodies.

Significant Achievements in the Career

As an AI researcher, facing challenges is a day-to-day task. But, it was quite interesting to solve the tasks involved in medical image processing. Every sector of the images utilized different strategies in solving the problems taken up. Even though the deep learning models developed to solve those issues on bulk medical images were time-consuming, it was interesting to see fruitful results in the form of research publications.

Expert Advice

To start up research, the primary aspects required would be the problem objective, a brief knowledge of the identified problem, and a huge amount of patience to get things done and achieve the results as desired.
