Dr. Monika Gupta, Associate Professor, Chitkara
Business School, Chitkara University
I am Dr.
Monika Gupta, Associate Professor (Marketing and General Management) at
Chitkara Business School of Chitkara University, Punjab. I have a PhD in
Management, a UGC-NET in Management, and an MBA (Marketing and Information
Technology) with more than fifteen years of teaching experience and four years
of corporate experience. The guiding principle of my personal and professional
philosophy is encapsulated in the maxim, “Education is the only weapon in the
hands of a common person to fight the battle of life." I believe that education
is the best means to realize one's vision.
Could you tell us about your educational and
professional journey?
I have
been in the profession of imparting education at the postgraduate and
undergraduate levels in ‘Marketing’ and ‘General Management’ since 2007. Prior
to this, I spent four years at corporations like Nilkamal Group, Amartex, and
INDOSAW. I have also taught in reputed public and convent schools for four
years.
Could you elaborate on your specific areas of
expertise?
My areas
of expertise are ‘Marketing Management’, ‘Strategic Management’, ‘Consumer
Behavior’, ‘Consumer Satisfaction’, ‘Perception’, ‘Retail Marketing’, ‘Services
Marketing', and allied areas. I have been delivering time-bound, online
sessions as a resource person during a 5-day Faculty Development Program titled
“Research Publication and Ethics” for PhD scholars since April 2023. I have
also introduced two value-added courses on “Neuromarketing” in BBA
(Professional) and “Health and Wellness Management” in BBA (Aviation
Management) at Chitkara University in 2023.
What inspired you to specialize in marketing and
general management?
Marketing and production are two
essential functions that are necessary for the survival of a business. Even
production rests on marketing. I am a person who loves to interact with others
and explore new things, am eager to learn, accept challenges, find opportunities, and, above
all, am a positive and passionate person, which makes me suitable to opt for
this specialization.
Could you share your primary duties as an
Associate Professor at Chitkara University?
I have
been teaching ‘Marketing Management’, ‘Strategic Management’, ‘Retail
Management', and ‘Consumer Behavior’ since 2021. I have twenty-five papers
published in SCOPUS, including three edited book publications with an
international publisher, of which two are on ‘Neuromarketing’ and one on ‘Waste
Management’. I have one patent granted, two patents filed, and two more in
process. I have one copyright published, and two are in process. I also
convened a national conference titled ‘Navigating Global Horizons in SCM and
Logistics: A Seamless Tomorrow’ on April 19–20, 2024, organized by the SCM
& General Management Department, Chitkara University, Punjab.
Could you tell us about any distinguished awards
or honors you have been recognized for in your career?
I have
been honored twice during the ‘Excellence Awards’ organized by
Chitkara University, once on February 4, 2023, as an incentive for
consultancy assignments to Mondragon University, Spain.
Again, on December 17, 2023, as a top performer for publications. I was awarded
the “Best Senior Faculty Award” by the Novel Research Academy during the
National Faculty Award in April 2023.
What advice would you give to aspiring academics
and professionals in the fields of marketing and general management?
I advise
aspiring academics to develop a strong research foundation, refine their
teaching skills, network within academia, stay updated on ongoing industry
trends, publish in reputable journals, present at conferences, and strive for
teaching excellence. For aspiring professionals, I suggest acquiring a
well-rounded skill set, gaining practical experience, networking within their
industry, cultivating a lifelong learning mindset, and remaining adaptable to
industry changes. Marketing professionals should stay informed about consumer
trends and marketing channels, while general management professionals should
focus on enhancing their leadership, project management, financial acumen, and
strategic decision-making abilities. Both academics and professionals should
develop strong soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, and
leadership, embrace lifelong learning, and maintain a genuine passion for their
chosen field.
