Dr. J. Balamurugan, Assistant Professor, St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Affiliated to Anna University

I am Dr. J. Balamurugan from Chennai and am currently working as an assistant professor at the Department of Master of Business Administration at St. Joseph’s College of Engineering (an autonomous institution) affiliated with Anna University, Chennai.

 


Could you tell us about your educational qualifications and professional journey?


To my credit, I secure a Post-Doctoral Fellow of the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, from the Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhigram, Tamil Nadu, besides a Doctoral degree and a Post-Graduation (MBA) degree from the same esteemed institution in the years respectively. Moreover, Master of Philosophy and a Post- Graduation degree from Alagappa University, Karaikudi and 2010 respectively. In addition, that I have two Diploma courses and two Certificate courses, they are Diploma in Labour Management and Diploma in Micro Finance, Micro Finance and Micro Credit, and Personality Development.


Hitherto I have 18 years of experience in various fields such as 9 years in Research and 7 years in regular teaching, and 2 years in industry.  In addition, with that experiences my service lead to non-academic works of NSS coordinator, Placement officer, Residential warden, Active member of the NAAC committee. At present, I am guiding four Ph.D. research scholars and assisting an MRP project which is funded by AICTE, New Delhi.

  


What are your areas of expertise?


I am expertise on human resource management, entrepreneurship development, personality development, soft skills, and research methodology.

 


What are your primary responsibilities as an assistant professor at St. Joseph's College of Engineering?


My primary responsibilities are successfully implementing technology-based curriculum and assessment tools to provide an easy-to-use learning experience for my students and make them aware about socially responsible personalities to the domestic environment and to the nation through the prescribed syllabus and regulations were drawn by the management. With solely following the footsteps of the institution, I could enlighten the global experience of the discipline which I belong to. I am handling a major research project entitled “Impact of Special Incentive Scheme to Promote Literacy among Scheduled Caste Girls Studying in Standard III to V and VI to VIII”.

  


Could you share with us any awards or recognitions that you have received?

 

  • I have awarded the Post Doctor Fellow (PDF) 2017-2019 at the Gandhigram Rural Institute (DU), Gandhigram, by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.
  • ICSSR Research Assistant and Major Research Project (MRP) to conduct A Study on Strategies of Innovative Teaching Methods in Management Studies, funded by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
  • Trust Organization Committee Member in Sathiyam Social Service Organization (SSSO).

 


Could you tell us about your publications?


I published a book, four book chapters, three patents, two grants, and 32 research articles in reputed national and international journals such as SCI [2], Scopus [2], Web of Science [2], UGC Care listed [20], and ISBN book serials [6].

 


How do you manage the demands of balancing your research activities with your teaching responsibilities?


I would like to be a part of societal development so I could bring about changes among youngsters through using education as a tool to change their attitude and behavior and to develop the knowledge which is possible with a high level of commitment. Hence, I spend my time with students, faculty, researchers, and experts to learn more and more to do my best to produce the desired result in societal development. I would like to balance the teaching and research activities through proper planning and execution of the plan.
