What motivated you to pursue your career in the Medical field?

Hailing from a simple family where no one ever dreamt of becoming a doctor in the family, I strived hard to turn my dream into reality in 1991.
I wanted to become a surgeon when I was studying in 9th–10th grade. Today, when I think in retrospect, I realize my sole motivation to become a doctor was that of being a guardian to people around me and curing patients through surgeries is one of the purest privileges one could ask from almighty God.
I receive my biggest kick by treating patients through meticulous surgery and making them free from that disease for life.

What are the key advancements in laparoscopic surgery that you have witnessed over your career in 23 years?

Two decades ago, even surgeons were not convinced about the advantages of Laparoscopic surgery but now it is established beyond doubt that in skilled hands, laparoscopic surgery is far better than any open surgery. Be it any disease, if it can be treated by laparoscopic surgery, it should be the first choice.

What is the best advice for aspiring medical students who want to specialize in surgery?

My only advice to medical students is to not only build a strong foundation in basic sciences but also gain exposure to different surgical specialities, develop strong clinical and decision-making skills and never miss out on prioritizing patient care and empathy.
