Dr. Solomon
Arulraj David is an associate professor of education at the British University
in Dubai. He is also an honorary visiting fellow at the University of Glasgow,
UK, and a visiting research associate at the University of Johannesburg, South
Africa. He has 14 years of post-PhD and 22 years of experience in research,
teaching, leadership and community service.
Educational
and Professional Journey
Dr. David
has a master’s and doctorate in education from Katholieke Universiteit Leven,
Belgium. His other degrees are from (M.A., B.Ed., MBA-HRD) Monoammonium
Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, India. He has worked at KULeuven, Belgium;
SRM University, India; University of Johannesburg, South Africa; and The
British University in Dubai, UAE. He has gained professional experiences from
some of the transnational educational organizations, such as the internship at
UNESCO, France (2005); the internship at St. Pius, New Orleans, USA (2007); and
a traineeship at DG Education Culture, European Commission, Belgium (2009).
Research
Journey and Experience
He conducts
high-quality independent and joint research focusing on publishing in
high-impact factor journals. He is rated as the top 5% of researchers in
education by academia. His core research interests are comparative
international higher education and educational management and leadership. His
other research interests include curriculum & instruction, education
policy, sociology of education/knowledge, qualitative research methods,
professional values, ethics, and citizenship education. He has completed 10
internal (6 from current and 4 from previous universities) and 4 externally
funded research projects.
Academic
Expertise
Dr David has
supervised 27 doctoral students, 5 M.Phil. students, and over 85 master’s
students and is currently supervising several master’s and doctoral students.
He is a member of the editorial board of a few and a reviewer for many academic
journals. He is a member of the board of studies and an external examiner for a
few universities and colleges. He has served on the academic board, senate, and
various committees, including ethics, appeal, curriculum, and teaching and
learning committees. He has also contributed to the faculty of education in
different administrative roles, such as admission tutor, exam officer,
dissertation coordinator, and head of the master’s in education program from
2017-2020. He has been an external examiner for few universities in India,
Malaysia, South Africa, and the UAE. He has been a volunteer and consultant to
various organisations, schools, and universities. He is a CAA-UAE-licensed
higher education institution and program reviewer.
Honors and
Awards
He has
received various honors and awards. He received the prestigious doctoral
scholarship from the inter-faculty research council fund from KULeuven
(2005-2010). He obtained the post-doctoral fellowship (2013-2014) from the
University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He was sponsored by the European
Commission to attend the summer school on intercultural education hosted by
UNED, Madrid, Spain. He got the Sharing Knowledge Project Award from VLIR-KUL,
Belgium, during 2008 and 2010. He was sponsored to participate in the 12th
Training (2012) on education for international understanding by UNESCO/APCEIU,
Seoul, South Korea. He received an outstanding contribution award at the ICIE
conference (2015) in Krakow, Poland. He obtained the Outstanding Scientist in
Education Award from the Venus Foundation during 2018. He got the best paper
presentation award at the ICTEL-TERA Conference, Lisbon, Portugal, in 2019. He
received the best academician (male) award from IARE, Goa, India, in 2020.
Publications
and Recognition
Dr. David
has contributed over 100 publications. He has published 65 journal articles (23
in Q-rated journals), 2 books, and 6 book chapters; co-edited 4 books; and 8
conference proceedings and several abstracts in conference proceedings. He also
helped many of his students to publish their research. Apart from these, he has
published various short reflections in different blogs.
Teaching
Skills and Contributions
He has long teaching experience, teaching undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in Belgium, India, South Africa, and the UAE. He has delivered various guest lectures and workshops and trainings in more than 10 countries. He has designed, taught, and coordinated several modules/courses. He teaches in face-to-face and online modes and uses LMS (BB) effectively. He has taught students from 60+ countries and worked with staff from 40+ countries. He is also a TEDx and keynote speaker. He strives hard to excel in his profession. He is happy helping and mentoring students and young research scholars in their studies and research. He strongly believes that his best is yet to come.
