Jaiben George, CEO & Founder,
Cappsule
Could you give us an overview
of Cappsule and its key features?
Cappsule is an app that helps
people find the best deals on medicines at their nearest pharmacies. Right now,
if you need medicine, you either have to buy it from a local store or order
online from a platform that ships from a central warehouse. Online stores are
convenient, but they don’t always provide immediate service, especially in
smaller cities where deliveries can take days. The problem is, most patients
don’t have the luxury of waiting—they need their medicines right away.
Another challenge is that
doctors often prescribe specific brands, and many of these are only available
at local pharmacies. But there’s no easy way to check if a nearby pharmacy has
what you need. People still have to visit stores in person or call multiple
places just to check availability and prices. It’s frustrating, time-consuming,
and not exactly efficient.
That’s where Cappsule comes
in. With the app, you can search for medicines at local pharmacies, compare
prices, and even find alternative brands for any salt you need. Instead of
hopping from one pharmacy to another, you can place an order online and get
your medicines delivered in just a couple of hours. What makes it even better
is that you’re not limited to searching by brand—you can simply enter the salt
you need, and Cappsule will show you all the available brand options at nearby
stores.
It’s all about making medicine
shopping easier, faster, and more accessible, without the usual hassle of
running around or waiting for days for an online delivery.
What is the core mission of
Cappsule, and how does it align with the broader vision of Swasth Bharat Techno
Private Limited?
At Cappsule, our goal is to
bring transparency to medicine ordering and give patients more control over
their choices. In India, most people pay for healthcare out of pocket, yet the
choice of medicine brand is often made by doctors or pharmacists. While that
decision should ideally be based on quality, financial incentives can sometimes
influence it.
We can’t change the
prescribing system overnight, but what we can do is ensure that users have
access to information. With Cappsule, they can see alternative brands for the
same salt, compare prices, and make informed decisions. We also want to ensure
that people don’t spend unnecessarily on medicines. Right now, Cappsule is
focused on medicines and health products, but the broader vision is to bring
transparency and value into healthcare. As healthcare costs rise, it’s
important to encourage the judicious use of medical resources. Even if someone
can afford expensive treatments, that doesn’t mean they always need them. Our
aim is to provide people with the right information to make better decisions
for their health.
What inspired the creation of
Cappsule, and where do you see Cappsule in the next 5 years?
As an orthopedic surgeon I’ve
spent years treating patients at AIIMS Delhi, first as a resident and then as a
fellow. One of the most common questions I would get from patients in the
clinic was, “Where can I find this medicine?” Many of them had traveled long
distances to get treatment, and then they would have to visit multiple
pharmacies just to find the right brand.
Another thing I noticed was
the huge price variation between different brands of the same salt. The
difference could be over 90%, but most people weren’t even aware of it. That’s
what led me to create Cappsule.
Right now, we are live in
select areas of Delhi. Over the next five years, I hope we can scale Cappsule
to reach patients across India and solve even more challenges related to
medicine accessibility and affordability.
What kind of partnerships or
collaborations has Swasth Bharat Techno Private Limited made to enhance
Cappsule’s reach?
While Cappsule helps patients,
it also supports local pharmacies by helping them stay competitive in the
growing quick commerce space.
To make deliveries faster,
we’ve partnered with Borzo (formerly Wefast) so that patients can get their
medicines within an hour. This allows pharmacies to focus on selling while we
handle logistics.
We’ve also integrated with
Meta’s WhatsApp Business API to help pharmacies engage better with their
customers. And recently, we started working with ONDC, which will allow partner
pharmacies to sell across multiple platforms, further expanding their reach.
What career opportunities are
available at Cappsule for professionals looking to join the healthcare
technology sector?
We’re always looking for
passionate people to join us. Cappsule wouldn’t be where it is today without
the team that works on it every day. More than qualifications or experience, we
value people who care about making a difference in healthcare.
Right now, we’re hiring for
growth and marketing roles. If someone is excited about working in health tech
and wants to contribute to something meaningful, we’d love to hear from them.
What challenges did you
encounter in bringing Cappsule to market?
Launching Cappsule wasn’t
easy. From building the technology to onboarding pharmacies, every step had its
challenges. Since I didn’t come from a tech background, I initially partnered
with tech firms to develop the platform. But the problem we were solving turned
out to be more complex than we had anticipated.
Pharmacy inventories are
massive—most large stores carry at least 10,000 products. There’s no standard
naming system for medicines, and different pharmacies use different software,
making integration difficult. Early on, we struggled to onboard stores and
maintain accurate inventory listings.
When our tech partnerships
didn’t work out as expected, I decided to build an in-house tech team. I even
started learning programming myself. AI-based learning tools made it easier,
and eventually, with the team’s help, we figured out a way to solve the inventory-matching
problem using advanced machine learning algorithms.
Another major challenge was
scaling the platform to handle large volumes of searches, real-time inventory
updates, and smooth order processing. But we kept iterating, and after a lot of
trial and error, we got it right.
What advice would you give to
young professionals who want to build a career in healthcare technology,
especially in platforms like Cappsule?
There is so much opportunity
in healthcare technology, especially in India. Every day in my clinic, I see
hundreds of patients, and I know firsthand how much room there is for
innovation. Healthcare has improved a lot over the years, but there are still gaps,
and technology can help bridge them.
The best advice I can give is:
start now. If you see a problem, don’t wait for someone else to solve it. The
best time to act was yesterday. The second-best time is today.
Whether you come from a
medical, tech, or business background, what matters most is your willingness to
solve real problems. The future of healthcare isn’t just about new drugs or
better surgeries; it’s about making existing systems smarter, more accessible,
and more affordable. If you’re passionate about that, there’s no better time to
get started.
Great work, user friendly app
